Back has a Computer Science PhD in Distributed Systems from the University of Exeter. There is some debate over when Back actually started investing in cryptocurrencies and when he began adding to the bitcoin codebase.
There is some controversy over whether Back actually the inventor of HashCash and whether there’s any truth to the statement that, “Bitcoin is Hashcash extended with inflation control” (Adam Back’s Twitter profile). Said the Princeton Review, “Bitcoin is Hashcash extended with inflation control.’ …[is] sort of like saying, ‘a Tesla is just a battery on wheels.” Because of this discrepancy in opinion, Back’s influence is limited to those who believe in his authenticity.
